BEST VINYL CRAFTS YOU NEED TO TRY

BEST VINYL PROJECTS FOR BEGINNER

There are countless color options for the adhesive plastic known as vinyl. These include plain colors, stripes, and even metallics with iridescence. That is why vinyl project ideas are endless. Your creativity is limitless when you are using vinyl in doing your crafts. As a beginner, I know you can't think about what vinyl project you will do first. Remember that choosing the proper vinyl for your medium is important because it can be either heat transfer vinyl or adhesive vinyl (permanent or temporary). If your canvas can withstand heat, you can use heat transfer vinyl or otherwise choose the adhesive vinyl.

Let's look at some of the best vinyl project ideas you can do like a pro!

1. Drink The Dream

Inspirational sayings frequently appear in projects using vinyl. And if you find the right one, you can raise an everyday object into a motivating totem. So drink up while working hard, whether you've filled it with coffee for your daily commute or something stronger for a late-night brainstorming session! Here, the objective is to maintain concentration while pursuing your goals.

2. Wall Art

We used to hang pictures of our families on the walls. But abstract art installations are more popular in modern décor. You can still use pictures of your spouse and children as silhouettes if you're devoted to their photographs. You may also use this in your business; for example, if you own a coffee shop, why not try to display some humorous or inspiring phrases for your customers? I'm sure they will love to see that while drinking their coffee.

3. Mindful Mnemonics

They say anxiety is worrying about the future, while depression is regretting the past. That's why experts recommend staying in the present as a therapeutic resolution. You can do this through exercise, meditation, and mindfulness. But even if you're not into woo-woo thinking, this vinyl project will bring you smiling back to the present every time you glance at it.

4. Place Settings

Name tags are required in many situations. It may be a workplace meeting, a public conference, a wedding reception, a children's birthday party, or a group therapy session. Your visitors and delegates will feel seen. But double-check the spelling of their names! Try this vinyl craft idea for that personalized touch instead of buying generic lanyards.

5. Kiss The Chef!

You can easily customize a message for your beloved household cook. Whether you're dressing down for a romantic cook-in or prepping barbeque for the family, a personalized apron will keep you clean and smiling. Or, if you are a food owner, customize your Chef's aprons by sticking the name of your food business with their name. It's a quick vinyl project idea for iron-on vinyl on fabric.

6. Tags For Kids

Children must feel seen and heard to be happy and healthy as they grow. And you can achieve this by doing simple things like recognizing their uniqueness. A charming personalized name board is the ideal tool for this. The name tag can go on their bedroom door. In a shared space, it can go in their locker or their favorite toy box. It can even mark their chair at school

7. Flower vase

Here's another strategy for giving a cheap item a stronger sense of self. Any old milk bottle would do, or you may purchase some glass vases, which frequently come in adorable shapes and colors. Then, using glittering vinyl, cut out some stars, circles, or stripes. Stick these outside the vase to make a starry, polka dot, striped, or blocked flower holder.

8. Doormat

Many houses have a 'welcome mat' at the front door. But if you have a Vinyl and Cricut machine, you don't have to stick with boring messages. Try something cheeky and personalized. You may download SVG for the message on your mat. Alternatively, cut and print your own vinyl wording – it's easy! The Cricut website also has many free and low-cost files you may want to download.

9. Baby Shark!

Some children love back-to-school shopping. It's an excuse to purchase new clothing and other items! Some people hate it because, well, school. Making kids favorite toys, cartoons, or celebrities appear on their school supplies will help to ease the burden. Create an iron-on vinyl stencil of their favorite bible verse, comics, or a shark for their pencil case or book bag.

10. EasyPress Monograms

Monograms used to be a status symbol, especially on fancy shirts or cufflinks. However, you can also add that unique touch to daily goods, and they make lovely presents. Choose the person's nickname or initials for this vinyl craft idea, cut them out, and then use a little 3.5x2 heat press to iron them onto leather cord organizers.

11. Vinyl Decal For Car Lovers

Names, labels, and mushy messaging aren't the only things you can do with your vinyl crafts. You might like an abstract vinyl design. Or perhaps visual. You may create an iron-on car logo symbol. Or an instantly recognizable heartbeat silhouette. For the (not so) little boy that loves cars, don't just slap his name on his favorite bottle or mug. Be creative.

12. Muggy Magic

Customized mugs will add a personal touch to your tea set. If you frequently stencil mugs, tumblers, bottles, or candles, investing in a Mug Press may be worthwhile. It's unnecessary because you can manually press vinyl onto the glass or ceramic item. However, for large tasks, the mug press will make things go more quickly and neatly. Just make sure to use the proper vinyl for your medium.

13. Spruced Up Shelving Makeover

You can build a bookshelf from scratch if you enjoy working with wood. You could find an antique shelf at a flea market or yard sale. You might use new or reclaimed wood from a junkyard. Either way, personalize your stand with heat-pressed vinyl patterns.

14. Cheeky Bathrooms

Your (guest) bathroom tells a lot about you. Some people kept magazines and newspapers in neat stacks. Others had a variety of jars and bottles full of items, and before cellphones, a significant amount of toilet time was spent reading product labels. However, you can also hang amusing door signs. Your guests will be giggling as they flush when they see this framed vinyl.

15. Baby Growth Shirts

Forget growth charts – it's time for growth shirts! Or at least tights and onesies! It's a fun way to track your baby's progress. It works for toddlers – you can monitor their height and limb length. It can be a helpful tool for picky eaters too – they'll be eager to eat healthy so they can get 'big enough for a new shirt'. And they're a clever way to announce an incoming baby.

16. Personalize Your Purse

You don't need a Gucci purse or an LV wallet to feel elegant. You can still seem extravagant with an inexpensive clutch or journal from your local store. You'll need the appropriate vinyl stencil - nothing too showy or tacky. You also want something one-of-a-kind; you may download free shapes and designs from the Cricut website, but you must customize the template with your style.

Wouldn't you agree that vinyl improves everything? The possibilities are endless when it comes to personalizing something for yourself or as a gift.

What's your favorite Cricut vinyl project, then? Don't forget to share your vinyl projects with us!

WHAT CAN YOU MAKE USING ADHESIVE VINYL?

I was a little hesitant to use adhesive vinyl at first. But you don't need to be with these adhesive vinyl project ideas. They're so simple, easy, and fun that you'll be weeding and cutting in no time, making and designing your adhesive vinyl projects!! The fun thing is most of these projects will work well with any of the cutting machines, including Cricut and Silhouette.

Everything from home décor to fantastic gift ideas to make using adhesive vinyl can be found in this collection of 7 adhesive vinyl projects. These fun projects are so easy because of the step-by-step instructions. You could make them all without breaking a sweat.

I've got seven different things you can make with adhesive vinyl. Make sure you look at them before deciding on your next project! They are in no particular order; I've just listed them.

1. Photo Frame Menu Board

Choose a Frame for your Menu Board

Any frame you have will do like an 8 "x10" size. I felt like anything bigger would be too large for your counter, and anything smaller wouldn't give you enough room to write the meals. I also chose a background paper and cut it down to 8'x10".

Design you menu

To start designing your menu board, open the Design Space. Add an 8 "x10" rectangle to use as a guide for the placement of your words.

Now add each day of the week individually and "What's for" using the Four Seasons font. Then "Dinner?' in the Soirée Lettering-Grace Script and welded it together. Insert a square and unlock the size so you can stretch it thin and make a line under "What's for Dinner?".

After everything was the way, you wanted it, select all and hit "attach" so that they would stay in the same place when I went to cut them.

Cut it Out

Now load your adhesive vinyl on your cutting machine.

Weed the Design

Because the letters of the days of the week are thin and can easily get messed up, you can use the reverse weeding method.

The basics of reverse weeding:

  • Instead of pulling up the vinyl around the words, leave everything intact and apply the transfer tape.
  • Turn it over with the vinyl facing down and peel the backing of the vinyl off. You will still have all of the parts of your vinyl, but it is now attached to the transfer tape with the sticky side facing up.
  • Now you can weed the parts you don't need without worrying about your small piece moving or coming up because the transfer tape is holding them.

Transfer Vinyl to Glass

After cleaning the glass, put it back in the frame so you can see exactly where the frame covers the glass. Use it as a guide to applying the vinyl. Once all the vinyl was placed took the glass back out to make it easier to work with.

Next, rub the transfer paper with a scraper, but you could also use a credit card. Make sure you rub it well, so the vinyl all sticks.

Slowly peel up the transfer paper from the corner. Make sure you go slow in case any vinyl stays on the transfer paper if it does, just lay the transfer paper back down and rub again. Once you are done, turn it over. You can see any places that don't adhere well from the back. Rub on those places to get them to adhere better.

Woohoo! A pretty and custom menu board for your kitchen is now ready!

2. Custom Holographic Phone Case

Supplies needed:

  • Clear Phone Case
  • Holographic Vinyl
  • Cricut Explore
  • Transfer Tape
  • Weeder Tool
  • Scraper Tool

In your design space, you will start by creating a rectangle the same size as your phone case; on the left select Insert Shapes. Choose a square shape.

Under the edit tab, you want to click the little unlock button so you can make the square a rectangle. Type the measurements for your phone.

You can choose any images you want, but butterflies are my favorite! Click on Insert Images. In the search box, I typed butterfly to pull up all the butterfly images in the library.

Start by copying the lacy butterfly and adding them to the rectangle template. You can rotate them by using the little circle with an arrow in the upper right of the image. To copy a photo, click on the image, select Copy at the top, and then Paste.

Resize each of the butterflies and add them to your template.

On the Cricut machine, set the Smart Set Dial to Custom. From the Design Space drop-down menu, select Vinyl, Holographic – .0.25mm (Cricut).

Load your holographic vinyl onto a Standard Grip or StrongGrip Mat cutting mat. Press the flashing arrow button to load the mat into the machine. Then press the Cricut button to start cutting.

Once your design is cut out, trim it from the main sheet.

Weed all the excess vinyl. Use your weeder tool to help get all the little pieces out of the lacy butterflies.

Apply transfer tape to your vinyl and remove the paper backing. You can use your scraper tool to help you with this step.

Apply the vinyl to your phone.

The holographic vinyl is perfect for all the unicorn and mermaid crafts that are so trendy right now! I love how when you turn the phone, it looks blue, and when you turn it in the other direction, it looks pink.

Being able to customize things for me, my home, and gifts is one of the reasons I love having my Holographic Vinyl! The great thing about this project is you can customize it to match your personality. You can add a saying, different images, or a pre-made design.

3. Customize Balloons

Let's say you want to put your baby's name in balloons for her first birthday. So, write each letter of your baby's name on your design space. Depending on the size of your balloon, you type at least two letters at a time and choose cute fonts for your baby.

  • Supplies:
  • Dollar Tree Balloons (inflated)
  • Adhesive Vinyl
  • Transfer tape

These balloons made an excellent backdrop for the dessert table, not only is it unique and custom, but AFFORDABLE! The mommy will indeed receive so many compliments! The possibilities are endless as to what you can create with these balloons and vinyl.

Once the design was mapped out and sized, you got to work with your Cricut cutting machine. Once the machine cuts were done, cut out each letter separately with scissors, weed away the extra vinyl, and applied the transfer tape. Next, carefully place on the inflated mylar balloon. Finally, gently pull back the transfer tape, and voila, you have a custom balloon!

We hope this post has inspired you to create a little something special for your next event or party!

4. Seasonal Wall Art

Since Spring is just around the corner, we wanted to combine some of our favorite things- adhesive vinyl, mason jars, flowers, and wood for our latest project. By adding adhesive vinyl to wood, we've given this sign a unique look. Freshen up your space, add new offerings to your shop, or share this piece as a sweet gift.

You'll Need the following:

  • A Vinyl Cutter
  • Adhesive Vinyl
  • Application Tape
  • Squeegee
  • Wood
  • Fake Flowers
  • Hot Glue

Making this wall art is super simple!

  1. Open your design software and create your mason jar and quote.
  2. Insert your adhesive vinyl into your machine, check your cut lines and settings and click cut.
  3. Weed your design and apply the transfer tape over it
  4. Place it onto the wood, burnish it, and remove the tape.
  5. Take your fake flowers, cut the stems close to the head of the flower, and hot glue the blooms into place.
  6. Your jar of flowers is ready to be hung!

5. Stylish Kitchen Labels

Another simple but awe-inspiring adhesive vinyl project idea is putting labels on your kitchen equipment.

After sizing and cutting your text into your adhesive vinyl:

  1. Use your weeder or scraping tool to pick out the pieces you don't need.
  2. Peel away the sticky side of your transfer sheet and carefully place it onto your text design.
  3. Rub it well to make sure it's firmly stuck, then lift the transfer sheet – your vinyl word will now be on the transfer paper in mirror form.

Carefully line up your design on the bottle, lay the bottles down flat for this part, and use the grid on the transfer sheet for accuracy. Rub the transfer on, making sure you pay attention to all the edges – your thumbs and fingers are the best tools to use here! Peel off the transfer paper, and you have yourself the first in a set of personalized kitchen bottles and grinders.

The removable chalkboard sheet was a great little find from Cricut, and it can be peeled off and moved several times, making it perfect for kitchen cabinets or walls without making a mess. Apply your vinyl text before sticking the chalkboard on the wall so you can apply more weight to rubbing the image on. Follow the same process to make yourself a classic Menu board.

6. DIY Personalized Wedding Gift Tray

Now trays might seem like a thing of the past but apply some vinyl to them, and they'll be back in fashion in no time. Let's decorate a wedding tray from bare wood! Check it out if you need a unique wedding gift anytime soon.

Since this is a wedding gift, you can put the new couple's name on the tray.

Place your vinyl on the tray where you want it, and carefully peel back the transfer paper.

Use a Mod Podge matte as a sealer over the letters. Brush on a very light coat. And once it's dry, sand down the whole surface, and you will be staining. This is the secret to getting a sharp, crisp line when you peel off your vinyl.

Once your stain is dry, and you have the desired coverage you want, peel off your vinyl.

It's as easy as that!

It's a gift the couple will love having, reminding them of their special day and the people there celebrating with them.

7. Personalized Coffee Mug

And finally, a personalized mug. You can't have a list of adhesive vinyl projects and not have a mug!

What are we using in this project?

  • Glitter Vinyl
  • The Cricut Tool Set
  • The Explore Air 2

1. Prepare your mug

Prepare your mug by wiping it with rubbing alcohol and letting it dry completely. Give it a good hot wash if you don't have any rubbing alcohol.

2. Apply transfer tape

Apply transfer tape to the cut and weeded design, and burnish it with a squeegee or a scraper tool. Make sure the transfer tape is going to pick up the vinyl well.

I recommend using standard Cricut transfer tape for this project, not the strong or light grip.

3. Cut away excess tape

Once the transfer tape is applied, cut away the excess tape as close as you can around the outside of your design. This will make it easier to use.

4. Remove the backing paper

Peel half the backing paper back and cut it off, leaving half behind.

5. Position the design

Position the vinyl decal onto the mug and start by pressing it down the middle to secure it in place. Press from the center first and then slowly out to the edge.

7. Press design

Once again, focus on one section at a time, and press from the middle toward the edge.

8. Burnish the decal

Use your burnishing tool or scraper to ensure it is completely stuck down.

9. Remove the transfer tape

Remove the transfer tape by rolling it back onto itself. Do this slowly, ensuring every part of your design has appropriately stuck to the mug. If any part of the design has not adhered, roll the tape back and place and burnish it again.

10. Leave to settle

Leave the vinyl to cure for at least 24 hours before using and washing your mug.

Now you're all done – easy peasy!

8. Snowflake Gift Jar

This snowflake gift jar is an effortless adhesive vinyl project. Fill it with chocolate or candy and give it away as a DIY gift! Transform this ordinary glass jar into something you'll want to keep forever.

Supplies needed:

  • Glass jar
  • Cricut Explore
  • Metallic vinyl

This project is so simple and easy. Be sure to clean your jar well first.

Cut out snowflake shapes using your Cricut cutting machine. Get the snowflake gift jar design on your Cricut website.

Note: If you don't have a Cricut, you could also create this craft using vinyl and a snowflake punch or even hand drawing on the snowflakes with a gold paint pen.

Usually, when transferring vinyl to a surface, you would use transfer tape. But if you wanted a random pattern of snowflakes, peel them off the sheet and place them on your jar by hand. You then filled in the empty spaces with smaller and smaller snowflake shapes.

Fill your jar with a special treat, tie on some twine and a gift card, and give you a thoughtful, beautifully wrapped gift. I think this would make the perfect gift!
