No more extra time for finding and brainstorming what art activities to take, as every craft store serves trendy holiday projects. But sometimes, the more stuff flooding your mind, the harder it is to decide what to make.
Most notably, with our favorite crafting buddy, Cricut! The sea of Christmas ideas you can create with it is crazily enormous. And No! We can't afford the time spent on long hours of indecisiveness. Especially since busy folks like us only have limited time to spare before the big day.
So, we'll give you something easy yet will still sport the festive vibes of the season. Introducing...Cricut Christmas Stickers!
Relive the nostalgia of your childhood fancy. Learn with us and let your creative spirit enjoy another fun and exciting DIY yuletide project.
All thanks to the Cricut cutting machine's versatility, creating high-quality Christmas stickers has never been this quick and easy. So, even with just a few more days left before Santa climbs down your chimney, customizing stickers is such a breeze. But how exactly is it done?
Today we're going to show you how to turn your Cricut cutting machine into your new sticker-making buddy. And to make this project possible, we will use the Print-Then-Cut feature of Cricut.
This Print-Then-Cut method is a feature that allows you to cut precisely any design you've already printed on sticker paper using your Cricut cutting machine. To put it simply, instead of manually cutting it out using scissors, you're using a Cricut cutting machine to cut it automatically. This method is such a time-saving and effort-minimizing hack!
I can feel how excited you are to experience this new level of convenience brought by Cricut. So, here's the list of main crafting materials you'll need to create your home-made holiday stickers:
You'll find different types of sticker papers in the market; make sure that what you're getting is inkjet-ready sticker paper. You can use both matte and glossy-finished sticker paper, but I recommend matte printable sticker paper as they are less prone to ink smudges.
There's a reason we specifically require an inkjet printer over a laserjet. Though you'll get almost the same quality, an inkjet printer is the better choice because it offers prints with higher resolutions. It's perfect for printing colorful, crisp and vivid images.
Unfortunately, not all in the Cricut cutting machine family can print-then-cut yet. As of this writing, only Cricut Maker and Cricut Explore are capable of this feature.
This is Cricut cutting machine's essential accomplice. A cutting mat is a must to ensure a good grip on your sticker paper during cutting. Make sure to get a top-notch cutting mat to save yourself from an inaccurate cut.
Of course! This project won't take off without a couple of Christmas stickers to print. I'm sure you have tons of fave holiday image files ready for printing. But if you don't have anything just yet, don't fret, as there are thousands of free files on the internet ready for use. You can look for basic image files like .jpg, .bmp, .png, and .gif, as well as vector files such as .svg and .dxf. You got a range of options, so I'm sure you'll encounter zero hiccups when it comes to image files.
This design software is your gateway to success! Through Cricut Design Space Software, you can access the print-then-cut feature that automatically commands the cutting machine to cut the images for you.
Here's the procedure on how you can create customized stickers with your Cricut Cutting Machine.
Step 1: Prepare your Christmas-related image file.
Again, you have plenty of websites to visit for the Christmas images you will use. Some are free, while others are for sale. Websites such as Etsy, Creative Market, and Creative Fabrica housed great collections of high-quality sticker designs.
If you want, you can even create your design sticker using Cricut's very own design software. But you can also try other apps like Adobe Illustrator and Procreate, among others.
Step 2: Upload the image file to Cricut Design Space
To upload your image file, open the app first, select CREATE NEW PROJECT, and then click the UPLOAD button. Soon after, you'll be directed to computer folders containing images. Find your sticker design, then click UPLOAD IMAGE to import the file on the design software.
After this, you'll be prompted to select your preferred image type. Choose the appropriate setting depending on the graphic level of your image. I prefer a COMPLEX image every time I'm working on stickers.
The next step is to click SAVE AS A PRINT THEN CUT IMAGE. Rename the image before pressing SAVE.
Lastly, click INSERT IMAGE to transfer the sticker graphic to your Canvas.
Step 3: Edit, then Print the Sticker Image.
Once your file has been loaded on the canvas, you can now start resizing or editing the image quality. You must ensure that the image file will fit within the printable area. Make adjustments if necessary.
Then, load the sticker paper on your inkjet printer. Usually, the sticker paper is loaded facing up but double-check just to be sure. Some printers may have different settings when it comes to feeding papers.
Next, click the MAKE IT button, then just click CONTINUE, SEND TO PRINTER and finally, click PRINT.
You'll find that there's a solid black border surrounding the edges of the image. Do not panic, as this will guide Cricut to cut the sticker precisely.
Note: If you're still unsatisfied with the print quality, you can go to the printer's advanced setting and adjust the quality to high.
Step 4: Set the materials through Cricut Design Space
Once you've printed the sticker, head back to Cricut Design Space and access the material setting. For users of Cricut-made sticker papers, simply select STICKER PAPER, but if you're using other brands like Avery, select WASHI instead.
You can also choose what type of cut you want for your stickers. You can select KISS CUT or DIE CUT.
Kiss cut means that Cricut will only cut the top layer, leaving the backing paper uncut. On the other hand, choosing die-cut means that Cricut will cut through the top layer and the backing sheet.
Step 5: Load the Mat for cutting
Position the sticker paper on the cutting mat. Smooth it out using your hands or a brayer tool. Align the sticker paper as close to the upper left corner as much as possible. Once the sticker paper is placed, push the flashing arrow button to load the mat into the cutting machine.
The Cricut icon button will start flashing when the cutting mat has been loaded successfully. This flashing indicates that Cricut is ready for cutting. Next, push that C button to begin cutting. Soon after, Cricut will start scanning the black lines surrounding each image. Once it's done scanning, it will start cutting each sticker image.
Step 6: Unload the cutting mat and collect your stickers
You'll know when the machine's done cutting as the arrow button will flash continuously. Press this button to unload the mat.
However, do not immediately remove the mat from the machine. If you selected die-cut for your stickers, check first if the machine has successfully cut all the way through the sticker paper. If not, you can reload it again and cut it a second time.
Once everything's ok, start unloading the cutting mat from Cricut and collect your stickers from the mat. That's it! You have your Christmas stickers ready for use!
If you prefer kiss-cut stickers, carefully remove all the excess sticker sheets or the outer layer of the cut sticker images so you'll end up with only the stickers left attached to the backing paper.
Pro Tip: In some cases, the sticker sheet rips or curls when you peel it. To avoid this, turn the entire mat upside down and peel it off from the sticker sheet.
Now that we have our stickers ready let's find out how to use them to make merrier Christmas treats! You can use your home-made holiday stickers in the following:
Stickers are a fun way to level up and personalize any objects. From gadgets to notebooks to tumblers, you can always count on stickers to customize just about anything.
